Meet my new friend:

5.16.2008

This is my summer to date:

1. I do not have a job, but I will.

2. Salsa dancing is tonight and I really really want to go.

3. I went contra dancing last night and it was fun. I'll go back for the next couple of weeks but probably won't go much for the rest of the summer.

4. My brother got married last week. Woowoo!

5. I have learned that I tend to be attracted to a certain kind of guy. He is attractive, interesting, fun, easy to talk to... but this kind of guy has, as one friend puts it, "one fatal flaw." He is not a christian. Woe is me.

6. I've decided that I will be an event planner, maybe a wedding planner. This decision was based on the realization that a lot of my future job options require working with tight ass business men and women. I don't have time to mess with that because someone might get hurt.

7. I like the northeast.

8. I've been home for almost a week and have seen barely anyone that I know. I consider this to be a recovery period to regain energy for the summer ahead. Being an introvert, I need space from friends especially when I've been at school for a year where I see certain people almost every day.

9. It doesn't feel like summer break yet.

10. I am attempting to learn how to play the guitar this summer. I can currently play a c chord from memory. That's good, right?

I was reading the back of a can of Oust air sanitizer and I found these excellent words regarding the use of the product.

"Before spraying, remove birds."

There must have been some disastrous results from this product that involved birds. Well, now everyone knows.

Bill Clinton came to Boone yesterday. I went to hear him speak. I said that he thinks that Hillary would be a better president today than him. Wow. That's really big of him.

Today was the last day of classes. I couldn't be happier except that I still have two exams and a portfolio due. Ah! But it will all be over so soon.

4.21.2008

The quote of the day comes to you from Freaks and Geeks:

Sam: You look a bit like my grandpa
Bill: Oh yeah? Well is your grandpa super cool?

4.19.2008

1. Susannah and Anna coming to visit.
2. Hiding from Thomas and Evan with Susannah, Anna, and Martha
3. Finding out that RUF App State will have a yearlong stand in intern-ish person until our campus minister shows up a year from now
4. Seeing Juno
5. Scaring the bajeebees out of James, Scott, and Joe after watching Juno for the second time
6. Going out to breakfast with my suite
7. Finding shoes to wear to the weddings
8. Finishing my proposal to be on Fear Factor (business writing class assignment)
9. Finding out that my business writing class will not have a final
10. Realizing that there is only 1 1/2 weeks left before finals

4.14.2008

What?! Snow in April should be expected since it is Boone after all. Today has looked a lot like a November day.

Spring semester is so close to ending! It is hard to believe that my Summer break is about to begin when I look out the window and it is snowing.

4.01.2008

Here you go AHH:

Why my hair looks the way it does 101 (or something like that)

1. My genetics ordained it
2. I never brush it
3. I rarely use a hair dryer
4. I sleep on it wet
5. Basically, I ignore it

3.28.2008

I went to a Chris Thile (or Punch Brothers) show at the Gray Eagle last night. It was amazing! I really admire Chris Thile's ability to make music. And I'm pretty sure that some Punch Brothers is now on the list for my next itunes binge.

3.21.2008

What am I turning into? I filled out a bracket.

3.17.2008

I need sleep!

3.12.2008

I have recently been reintroduced to the wonders of youtube. One of the videos is just really funny and the other one is my new favorite tv show. Even if you're not a tv person, you should like this one. It is too funny.

My new favorite!

I went roller skating tonight for the first time in a long time. It was super fun. The cool kid who rules the rink on Friday nights was hitting on my group of friends. Ha! He was given no satisfaction.
I had no idea about the subculture of Boone that exists at the roller rink on a Friday night. I half want to go back a few more times just because of the novelty of the whole thing. I am a little bit addicted to new cultural experiences.

This prayer comes from the book The Valley of Vision. It was strange to open the book to this prayer because it was a little bit like someone had written my thoughts down on a page.

O Lord,

Though knowest my great unfitness for service,
my present deadness,
my inability to do anything for thy glory,
my distressing coldness of heart.
I am weak, ignorant, unprofitable,
and loath and abhor myself.
I am at a loss to know what thou wouldest
have me do,
for I feel amazingly deserted by thee,
and sense thy presence so little;
Though makest me possess the sins of my youth,
and the dreadful sin of my nature,
so that I feel all sin,
I cannot think or act but every motion is sin.
Return again with showers of converting grace
to a poor gospel-abusing sinner.
Help my soul to breathe after holiness,
after a constant devotedness to thee,
after a growth in grace more abundantly every day.
O Lord, I am lost in the pursuit of this blessedness,
And am ready to sink because I fall short
of my desire;
Help me to hold out a little longer,
until the happy hour of deliverance comes,
for I cannot lift my soul to thee
if thou of thy goodness bring me not nigh.
Help me to be diffident, watchful, tender,
lest I offend my blessed Friend
in thought and behavior;
I confide in thee and lean upon thee,
and need thee at all times to assist and lead me.
O that all my distresses and apprehensions
might prove but Christ's school
to make me fit for greater service
by teaching me the great lesson of humility.

I saw Into The Wild tonight. It was pretty amazing. Go see it.

2.06.2008

I suppose it means I've failed a little bit at life when I can't keep a single orange thyme plant alive in my dorm room.

2.05.2008

Sunny 65 degree weather days should be reserved for the spring months. February does not count.

I am not a feminist and Gloria Steinem has confirmed it. She has, however, also confirmed that there are at least three hundred other feminists in Boone who can replace me. Thank goodness for that...

I wasn't aware that it was a cool thing to go to a bar at lunch time on a school day right before class to get sloshed. Actually, I though it was a stupid thing. My bad!

Accounting almost makes sense to me now.

So many people in Boone are getting the flu right now that someone has actually started a rumor that they will cancel school for a week if the amount of sick people continues to increase. I'm beginning to appreciate all I went through to get my flu shot at the beginning of the school year.

Speaking of canceling school, someone is getting soft in their old age because the spring semester has been going for less than four weeks and they have already had one day of no classes before 11 a.m. and one day of completely canceled classes because of snow and ice. By reading my first sentence and then knowing that there has been snow in the past few weeks also we can only come to one conclusion: that is that, as one of my friends said, "the weather in Boone has a mental breakdown every day."
